Job Summary

The Patient Advocate plays a critical role in ensuring the rights and responsibilities of patients are respected at all times. This includes educating both patients and staff on patient rights and providing an unbiased presence on all quality, service, and concern-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establishes a continuous process for patient inquiries to ensure timely responses and resolution.
  • Promotes quality improvement initiatives by implementing a feedback loop and collaborating with relevant committees and services.
  • Mediates or negotiates mutually acceptable outcomes between parties to resolve conflicts and improve patient satisfaction.
  • Communicates trends and complaint summaries to senior management and relevant departments to inform policy development and quality improvement efforts.
  • Collaborates with staff training programs to enhance customer service and patient care skills.
  • Assists in developing and revising patient brochures and desk references to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Makes referrals to other agencies and individuals as required to support patient needs.
  • Promotes respect and dignity for individuals through policy development and advocacy efforts.
  • Reviews patient survey outcomes to identify quality improvement opportunities and communicates findings to management.
  • Identifies potential problem areas within the organization and addresses them in partnership with senior management.
  • Communicates risks and issues to relevant service areas to ensure prompt attention and resolution.
  • Provides input into policy development to close gaps within the system and improve patient care.
  • Prepares regular reports to senior management and stakeholders to inform decision-making and quality improvement efforts.
