Patient Services Specialist - Convenient Care Clinic- Main

Category: Admissions, Assessment and Referral Staff

Job Summary: The Patient Services Specialist (PSS) is responsible for welcoming and directing patients, answering, screening, routing phone calls, and checking patients in and out. The PSS will also be responsible for collecting co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, and outstanding balances.

Job Specific:

  1. Promptly answer and direct all incoming phone calls to the appropriate area.
  2. Check patients in and out accurately and efficiently.
  3. Verify and update all patient demographics.
  4. Obtain, confirm, and enter patient insurance information.
  5. Schedule patients according to clinic protocol and guidelines.
  6. Prepare charts and print encounter tickets prior to patient visit.
  7. Confirm appointments and document responses in EMR.
  8. Receive and upload laboratory, imaging, and other procedural results into the patient's e-chart.
  9. Collect outstanding balances, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles.
  10. Reconcile the cash drawer as per CMP Business Office guidelines.
  11. Process inbound and/or outbound referrals.

  • Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
  • Performs within the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
  • Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

Other Duties As Assigned:

  • Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time.

Educational Requirements:

Required: High School diploma or GED

Preferred: Education and/or training related to the clinic specialty.

Experience:

Required: At least one year of experience in a healthcare-related field.

Preferred: Prior experience working in a medical practice/office.

Skills and Abilities:

Required: Basic computer skills, effective communication skills, and willingness to travel to satellite clinics.

Preferred: Familiarity with medical terminology, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with electronic medical records.

Licensure/Certification:

Required: Current Texas Driver's License

Preferred: Certification related to physician practice or clinical setting.
