Job Overview:

This position involves the delivery of structural components and analyses for naval ships as part of a Design Support Contract. The role encompasses hull structure and equipment foundation systems.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-level engineering technical expertise based on relevant experience and knowledge.
  • Design structural systems for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering processes.
  • Perform first principle structural calculations to required standards.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (using ANSYS software) for complex tasks.
  • Undertake technical investigations, root cause analysis and solution identification.
  • Deliver technical reports and documentation in accordance with established standards.
  • Collaborate with the broader Engineering Team to engage with various disciplines in new naval ship system design development.
  • Assist and mentor junior structural engineers.
  • Plan and coordinate assigned projects from concept through delivery, including project planning, scheduling and stakeholder engagement.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree - Engineering (Mechanical / Naval Architecture / Aeronautical).
  • Proven skills and experience in Structural or Naval Architecture functions.
  • Technical and industrial Defence experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of structures (particularly, ship) and material properties.
  • Finite Element Modelling and Analysis experience (preferably ANSYS).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to operate independently using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills.
  • Able to deliver results in high-pressure environments.
  • Prioritise and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building at all business levels.
Key Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Naval Architect / Aeronautical).
  2. Proven skills and experience in Structural or Naval Architecture.
  3. Defence industry experience.
  4. Knowledge of structures and materials.
  5. ANSYS experience.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work autonomously.
  8. High-pressure environment performance.
  9. Multitasking ability.
  10. Effective communication.
