About the Role

We are seeking a talented mid-level lawyer to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the public sector. As part of the AWS public sector legal team, you will support AWS's public sector customers, including government, state-owned enterprises, NGOs, healthcare, and educational institutions, in Australia, New Zealand, and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and advise on a wide range of technology contracts with a focus on Australian and New Zealand public sector customers.
  • Assist with responses to bid proposals/tenders.
  • Support compliance training and awareness.
  • Work proactively with regulators and policy makers.
  • Provide ongoing legal counsel and contract interpretation to business team members on a day-to-day basis.
  • Help develop, implement, and manage process improvements across the team.

Requirements

  • Law degree (L.L.B., J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and/or law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Australia or New Zealand.
  • 5+ years of post-admission legal experience at a top national or international law firm, in-house, or government agency.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts involving public sector customers (including government, state-owned enterprises, NGOs, healthcare, and educational institutions).
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house government or tech experience.
  • Sound written and oral communication, and client interaction skills.
  • Experience in public sector procurement and knowledge of Australian or New Zealand government procurement rules.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth security regulations (e.g. the Protective Security Policy Framework and Information Security Manual).
  • An existing Commonwealth security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
