Role Overview
This key position is responsible for employing a strengths-based community development approach to strengthen community capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies in North Queensland.
The ideal candidate will possess flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engagement and advocacy activities to promote community resilience
- Support workshops and training sessions to enhance emergency management skills
- Collaborate with Local and District Disaster Management Groups, councils, community organisations, and volunteers to develop effective disaster response strategies
- Assist Red Cross Emergency Services during disaster response to address immediate community needs
Requirements
- A relevant four-year degree with one year of relevant experience or a three-year degree with two years of relevant experience
- Prior experience in emergency management, project management, or community engagement and/or community development
- Able to set priorities, plan, and organise own work and that of other staff and/or volunteers as required
- Previous experience in delivering project/program outcomes
- Able to effectively support communities before, during, or after a disaster
- Able to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Mandatory Requirements
- A clearance to work with children (Blue Card) is a requirement for this role
