Role Overview

This key position is responsible for employing a strengths-based community development approach to strengthen community capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies in North Queensland.

The ideal candidate will possess flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement and advocacy activities to promote community resilience
  • Support workshops and training sessions to enhance emergency management skills
  • Collaborate with Local and District Disaster Management Groups, councils, community organisations, and volunteers to develop effective disaster response strategies
  • Assist Red Cross Emergency Services during disaster response to address immediate community needs

Requirements

  • A relevant four-year degree with one year of relevant experience or a three-year degree with two years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience in emergency management, project management, or community engagement and/or community development
  • Able to set priorities, plan, and organise own work and that of other staff and/or volunteers as required
  • Previous experience in delivering project/program outcomes
  • Able to effectively support communities before, during, or after a disaster
  • Able to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Mandatory Requirements

  • A clearance to work with children (Blue Card) is a requirement for this role
