About the role

Red Cross assists individuals and communities before, during and after an emergency or event, to cope with and manage the psychosocial impacts of emergencies.

This Emergency Services Recovery Officer role will be based in North Queensland (Townsville) and will employ a strengths-based community development approach to strengthen community capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. In this role, you will lead engagement and advocacy activities, and support workshops and training. You will work closely with Local and District Disaster Management Groups, councils, community organisations, and volunteers to build local knowledge, capability, and confidence. You may also play a role in assisting Red Cross Emergency Services during disaster response to address immediate community needs. This dynamic position demands flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Qualifications
  • Relevant four-year degree with one-year relevant experience or three year degree with two years of relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications with substantial years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience in emergency management, project management or community engagement and/or community development
  • Ability to set priorities, plan and organise own work and that other staff and/or volunteers as required
  • Ability to effectively support communities before, during, or after a disaster
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Interpersonal skills, presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Mandatory Requirements

A clearance to work with children (Blue Card) is requirement for this role
