In this pivotal role, you will leverage your specialized knowledge to foster a culture of safety, ensure adherence to legislative requirements, and enhance the health and safety of Council personnel through effective WHS strategies, training, and programs.
- Permanent Full Time Position
- 35 hours per week.
- Facilitate the rollout of the Council's Safety Management Systems across various operational areas, including construction and major project sites.
- Provide authoritative guidance on safety regulations and risk management pertaining to high-risk activities, such as construction, excavation, and equipment operation.
- Assist staff and management in complying with safety regulations and ensure contractors meet established safety standards.
- Promote high safety standards among management, employees, and contractors.
- Conduct safety audits and investigations to identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and report on safety performance metrics across the Council.
- Act as a key advisor on the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Committee.
- Regularly assess Council workplaces for potential hazards and implement necessary safety measures.
- Proactively enhance health and safety practices within your designated area.
- Stay informed about updates in WHS legislation and practices, communicating relevant changes to stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and oversee WHS procedures to ensure compliance.
- Establish strong relationships with union representatives, delegates, and employees regarding safety and well-being initiatives.
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related field.
- General induction for the construction industry (white card).
- Experience in a safety leadership role within the construction sector.
- Proven track record in implementing safety systems in operational or trade environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the NSW WHS Act and Heavy Vehicle National Law.
- Ability to provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders to meet WHS legislative and organizational standards.
- Strong communication skills to engage with a diverse range of internal stakeholders on both strategic and operational matters.
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding staff-related issues.
- Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
- Experience in conducting safety audits and investigations.
- Background in Local Government.
