Job Description

Job Title: Chief Advisor

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Advisor to join our team at The State of Queensland. As a key member of our Engineering Services Unit, you will provide professional engineering expertise and technical advice on workplace health and safety issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide Technical Advice: Offer expert advice to stakeholders, government departments, private sector organizations, industry associations, unions, and the general public on workplace health and safety matters.
  • Program Development: Support the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality programs and services that improve analysis of failure in structural, electrical/electronic, and mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems and outcomes for Queensland workplaces.
  • Documentation: Prepare high-quality written documentation, including reports, briefing notes, discussion papers, options papers, and departmental correspondence, in accordance with departmental standards and timeframes.
  • Education and Training: Deliver education and training programs for OIR staff and external stakeholders, and evaluate programs to ensure adequate skills, competencies, and standards are attained.
  • Inspectorial Support: Liaise and work with inspectorial staff to ensure the successful implementation of operational procedures relating to complaints concerning safe plant matters in the workplace.
  • Technical Advice: Provide professional and technical advice to OIR's inspectorate relating to engineering services and matters through coaching, guidance, tools, and access to training and development.
  • Representation: Represent OIR on internal and external committees at department, state, and federal levels.
  • Plant Safety: Review and register designs of plant, conduct safety audits of registered plant designs, and develop and conduct seminars and workshops to inform industry about legislative requirements in relation to plant safety.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Significant experience in engineering services, workplace health and safety, and program development.
  • Skills: Excellent technical and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
