Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Technical Expertise: Offer professional and technical advice to stakeholders, government departments, and industry associations on workplace health and safety issues.
  • Program Development: Support the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality programs and services that improve analysis of failure in structural, electrical/electronic, and mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems and outcomes for Queensland workplaces.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare high-quality written documentation, including reports, briefing notes, discussion papers, options papers, and departmental correspondence, in accordance with departmental standards and timeframes.
  • Education and Training: Deliver education and training programs for OIR staff and external stakeholders, and evaluate programs to ensure adequate skills, competencies, and standards are attained.
  • Inspectorial Support: Liaise and work with inspectorial staff to ensure the successful implementation of operational procedures relating to complaints concerning safe plant matters in the workplace.
  • Technical Advice: Provide professional and technical advice to OIR's inspectorate relating to engineering services and matters through coaching, guidance, tools, and access to training and development.
  • Representation: Represent OIR on internal and external committees at department, state, and federal levels, and represent the department in various forums and advocate on issues relating to safe plant matters in the workplace.
  • Design Review: Review and register designs of plant, such as boilers, pressure vessels, gas cylinders, cranes, hoists, and amusement devices, as required under the Queensland workplace health and safety legislation.
  • Safety Audits: Conduct safety audits of registered plant designs, including liaison with consultant engineers and competent persons (plant design verifiers) as part of the audit process to verify the safety of plant.
  • Industry Engagement: Develop and conduct seminars and workshops to inform industry about legislative requirements in relation to plant safety.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Significant experience in engineering services, workplace health and safety, or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong technical expertise, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
