
Mechanical Operations Manager

The Mechanical Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient supervision and maintenance of fleet (plant & equipment) and workshop facilities. This role provides high-level support to the Engineering Services department, aiming to achieve optimal fleet utilisation.
Key Responsibilities:- Fleet Maintenance: Ensure repairs and maintenance are prioritised, scheduled, and carried out with minimal delay, managing council's fleet maintenance, workshop facilities, and associated assets.
- Workshop Operations: Maintain up-to-date records, logbooks, manuals, and service logs. Prepare written reports for council as required.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Assign tasks, supervise, and provide direction to staff. Implement HR policies and procedures, conduct daily toolbox talks.
- Airport Refuelling Facility: Conduct regular inspections, defect notification, fuel testing, and reporting. Coordinate fuel ordering/deliveries and annual maintenance and inspections.
- Other Duties: Ensure WHS policies are followed, perform professional development in Fleet and Workshop areas, build relationships with stakeholders, manage timesheets.
The position requires physical activities aligned to key responsibilities and duties. Duties may be modified to meet council plans. May require attendance for out-of-hours requests.
Required Skills and Qualifications- Qualified Heavy Earthmoving Mechanic and/or Diesel Fitter and/or other mechanical trade;
- Current General Construction Induction Card;
- Current Queensland MR Class Driver's Licence;
- Experience in applying effective human resource management practices;
- Experience supervising mechanical staff and apprentices within budgetary constraints;
- Current Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B immunisations (or willingness to obtain);
- Significant experience in maintenance and repair of a diverse range of vehicles and plant;
- Qualifications and experience in air conditioner servicing and auto electrical repairs;
- Sound knowledge of purchasing and budgeting procedures;
- Sound knowledge of appropriate computer applications.
