Position objective: To ensure the efficient supervision and maintenance of Council's Fleet (plant & equipment) and Workshop facilities to provide high level support to the broad Engineering Services department and other Council operations, while achieving Council's Fleet utilisation.
Key Accountabilities / Duties
Fleet & Workshop: Manage Council's fleet maintenance, workshop facilities and associated assets; ensure repairs and maintenance are prioritised, scheduled and carried out with minimal delay; maintain up-to-date records, logbooks, manuals and service logs; prepare written reports (monthly and ad hoc) for Council; implement administrative procedures including purchasing and budgeting; conduct parts interpretation and stock control; coordinate physical recoveries of Plant and equipment; assist the Manager of Works with technical information for tender applications; coordinate quotes and repairs for Panel Damage; assist with Insurance claims; undertake periodic inspections of fleet; monitor and manage fleet warranties; design, develop and implement plant preventative maintenance systems; conduct investigations after incidents or WHS reports; ensure safe and technically sound methods; operate and maintain equipment per manufacturer instructions; ensure plant is cleaned after use; record defects weekly; participate in development and continual improvement of Fleet & Workshop standards.
Airport Refuelling Facility: Undertake activities related to the Airport Refuelling facility including regular inspections, defect notification, fuel testing and reporting, coordinating fuel ordering/deliveries, and coordinating annual maintenance and inspections.
Leadership & Teamwork: Assign tasks, supervise and provide direction; ensure HR policies and procedures are implemented; conduct daily toolbox talks; develop training plans; support apprentices toward formal qualifications; conduct inductions; retraining after incidents; annual performance reviews; manage discipline as required; engage and manage contractors; maintain a safe work environment; motivate and manage staff; participate in team meetings and training; support recruitment; communicate safety matters; mentor and provide feedback for improvement.
Other: Ensure WHS policies are followed; professional development in Fleet and Workshop areas; build relationships with stakeholders; manage timesheets; identify efficiency improvements; apply OHS principles; perform other duties as requested by Manager of Works or Director of Engineering Services within skill set.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The position requires physical activities aligned to key accountabilities and duties.
Duties may be modified to meet Council plans.
May require attendance for out-of-hours requests (including weekend airport inspections); compensation according to the Award.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
Qualified Heavy Earthmoving Mechanic and/or Diesel Fitter and/or other mechanical trade;
Current General Construction Induction Card;
Current QueenslandMRClass Driver's Licence;
Experience in applying effective human resource management practices;
Experience supervising mechanical staff and apprentices within budgetary constraints;
Current Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B immunisations (or willingness to obtain);
Significant experience in maintenance and repair of a diverse range of vehicles and plant;
Qualifications and experience in air conditioner servicing and auto electrical repairs;
Sound knowledge of purchasing and budgeting procedures;
Sound knowledge of appropriate computer applications.
Desirable
Prior experience in a similar Workshop Supervisor role;
Experience in Local Government governance and procurement;
Current 'MC' Drivers Licence.
