Are you looking for a career where you can make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families? We have an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join our team in the Regional Resource program (Foster Care and Adoption Preservice).
This role involves working with prospective foster caregivers and adoptive parents, guiding them through the recruitment and preservice process. You will be responsible for ensuring that children and youth in care have access to safe, supportive, and well-prepared foster and adoptive homes.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, trauma-informed care, counselling, community resources, and effective intervention strategies. They will also possess excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and adaptability.
Key Responsibilities- Recruitment and Engagement: Plan and conduct regional recruitment initiatives targeting prospective foster and adoptive families; Develop and deliver public information sessions to raise awareness and encourage applications.
- Preservice Screening and Support: Screen applications and assess initial eligibility for foster care and adoption; Provide guidance and support to applicants throughout the preservice process.
- Training and Preparation: Coordinate, develop, and deliver standardized preservice training for prospective caregivers and adoptive parents; Support adult learners in understanding trauma-informed care, permanency planning, and the needs of children and youth in care.
A completed Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work is required, as well as a valid driver's license. The ideal candidate will also be eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW).
