Job Title: Housing Shelter Team Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Housing Shelter Team Lead to join our team at Our Place Society. As a key member of our team, you will provide leadership and support to both staff and residents, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and support to staff and residents, promoting a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Model important work habits and set the tone for each shift, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  • Advocate for residents, resolving difficult or sensitive issues and responding to medical emergencies, including overdoses.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment, ensuring the well-being and safety of all residents and staff.
  • Collaborate with the Site Supervisor and support team to develop and deliver resident support plans, ensuring effective service delivery.
  • Perform wellness checks and assist residents with activities such as room cleans and laundry.
  • Assist with applications and referrals, maintaining accurate records and files for each assigned resident.
  • Utilize de-escalation skills to mitigate challenging situations, maintaining a safe and calm environment.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, providing non-emergency first aid and liaising with partner agencies and professionals.
  • Oversee the daily functioning of the shelter/housing site, ensuring safety and well-being for all residents and staff.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in a related human or social services field.
  • A minimum of two years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
  • Ability to deal with individuals, family members, and community contacts in a positive and collaborative manner.
  • Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, mental illness, and addiction.
  • Training in or knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques and harm reduction approaches.
Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position, working three 12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week), with a competitive hourly rate of $30.75 to $35.29 per hour. The position requires union membership and offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental coverage, after completion of the probationary period.
