Position Overview

As a vital member of our organization, you will contribute significantly to enhancing the lives of individuals within your community by addressing their specific needs through our Queensland Community Support Scheme (QCSS). Your role is to adopt a client-focused approach, empowering clients to achieve their personal objectives and meet their support requirements.

You will be providing assistance to our QCSS clients located in the Gold Coast South region. Since support will be delivered in clients' residences, a readiness to travel is essential. Ideal candidates will reside in or near areas such as Burleigh Heads, Surfers Paradise, and Palm Beach.

One of the clients you will assist is an elderly male of Ethiopian descent who seeks a Support Worker to help with domestic tasks, including his passion for preparing Ethiopian cuisine.

This is a casual role that offers adaptable working hours to fit your lifestyle, accommodating school schedules if necessary. All working hours will be scheduled between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.


Key Duties

Support clients in enhancing their independence based on their specific needs and aspirations, including:

In-home assistance:

  • Light cleaning and household chores
  • Meal preparation support
  • Skills development
  • Personal care services

Community engagement support:

  • Social interaction and connection
  • Assistance with shopping
  • Helping clients to enhance their independence according to their identified needs and goals
  • Building rapport and collaborating effectively with clients and their families


Qualifications & Skills

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability, or related fields) is mandatory
  • Valid Australian Driver's Licence and ownership of a registered vehicle
  • Proven ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Blue Card is essential
  • Strong organizational skills, hygiene practices, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to foster and maintain positive relationships
  • A current First Aid and CPR Certificate (must be obtained prior to employment)

Candidates must successfully pass all state-based probity checks, including but not limited to a National Criminal History Record Check.

To be eligible for a position at Life Without Barriers, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or possess a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. Evidence of vaccination status will be required during the recruitment process.
