The Training Captain role is a critical position for licensed captains who are seeking to gain experience and familiarization with ASD vessels. This designation allows captains to qualify for check-off as an operator, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
As a Training Captain, you will be responsible for planning and executing vessel assignments, including navigation, crew management, and safety protocols. You will work closely with customers, pilots, and government agencies to ensure the smooth operation of the vessel and its crew.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring safe navigation of the vessel at all times.
- Conducting required drills, training, and safety meetings, and maintaining records per company policy.
- Inspecting the vessel to ensure conformance with safety standards and maritime regulations.
- Directing and supervising crew members in safe and productive operation of the vessel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of vessel handling and navigational skills commensurate with operating assignments.
- Working knowledge of propulsion, auxiliary, and deck machinery.
- Strong written and oral communicative skills.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours.
- Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a USCG Master 200/500/1600 Oceans or Near Coastal license, Master of Towing, STCW, Radar Endorsement, MMC, and TWIC.
- 5 years experience as a Master or Operating Mate on towing vessels.
- Valid state driver's license.
