Senior Health and Safety Specialist

This is a permanent role that offers flexibility, allowing you to work from various locations including capital cities such as Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

As a key member of the HSEQ team, you will be working for a leading digital organisation that owns, builds, operates, and manages infrastructure essential for keeping Australia connected. Reporting to the Head of HSEQ and Risk, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert advice and support to employees and people leaders on strategies to embed best practice health and safety management, hazard management, incident reporting, and investigation.
  • Leading and managing the continuous improvement of the Management System utilising a pragmatic and consultative approach to ensure fit-for-purpose outcomes.
  • Conducting incident investigations, inspections, and audits on sites as required.
  • Leading, consulting, and facilitating the development of core HSEQ regulatory guidance materials, processes, templates, forms, and compliance system tools to empower line management to lead safety and manage risk.
  • Maintaining the HSE system to ensure the information and processes developed are communicated in a clear and concise way ensuring it is simple and effective for line management to interpret and implement.
  • Providing training and education to employees and contractors on HSEQ topics such as incident reporting, emergency response, and hazard identification and control.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related discipline.

- Demonstrated experience in an Operational HSE role within high-risk or related industries such as civil construction or utilities.

- Strong presence and personal brand; ability to engage an audience and communicate the safety strategy.

- The ability to analyse the current state of situations and introduce a cycle of continuous improvement.

- Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal).

- Experience in the interpretation of safety legislation, policies, and procedures.

- Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts in a simple way.

- Inquisitive and curious with well-developed problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage change initiatives across multiple sites and multiple disciplines.
