We are seeking an experienced Strategic Leadership and Governance Advisor to join our team in the Australian Government Department of Defence. About the Role

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the Defence 2-Star Major General, providing strategic guidance on current and emerging issues relevant to the Cyber Operations Division. Key responsibilities include advising on governance, risk, and public sector accountabilities, undertaking internal and external engagement, and managing the COD office and support staff.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic advice to the MAJGEN on current and emerging issues relevant to the COD and the Defence enterprise;
  • Advising the MAJGEN and the COD executive leadership team and staff on matters relating to governance, risk, and public sector accountabilities;
  • Undertaking internal and external engagement and representation to advance the COD strategic intent and business objectives;
  • Oversight and management of the COD office and support staff, ensuring that diary management, travel, guest management, etc. are professionally delivered;
  • Oversight of Human Resources, Governance, Information and Knowledge Management, and Work Health and Safety functions;
  • Being adaptable, resilient, and a model of Defence and APS values to deliver timely and excellent results.

About Our Team

The COD is a dynamic and diverse team working closely with multiple Directorates to support Defence's Cyber Operations area. The successful candidate will work closely with the COD Executive team to plan, administer, and facilitate organisational outcomes and priorities.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional who can think strategically, set and prioritise busy workloads, identify risks and opportunities, and collaborate effectively in a Whole of Government setting. A high level of understanding of governance, risk, compliance, and ministerial acumen is essential, as well as a sound understanding of the machinery of Government and a proven ability to achieve results in a Whole of Government setting.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is AU$150,000 - AU$180,000, depending on experience. Additionally, you will have access to a range of benefits including paid annual leave, flexible working arrangements, and opportunities for career development.
