Director of Data Strategy and Governance

The Treasury of Australia seeks an exceptional leader for the Data Strategy and Governance Unit within the Macroeconomic Analysis and Policy Division. This is a pivotal opportunity to drive continuous improvement in how data is governed, managed, and used across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Chief Data Officer in delivering strategic direction and advice on internal data policy and innovative data projects.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to implement the Treasury's Enterprise Data Strategy and develop its successor.
  • Build momentum and visibility of the team's work program and support analytical and policy teams to leverage data effectively.
  • Work closely with the Australian Bureau of Statistics and other agencies on data policy proposals, including budget processes.
  • Lead a high-performing team with expertise in data governance, use, visualization, and policy, including coaching and developing staff.
Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • In-depth understanding of Australia's public sector data landscape.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving business outcomes through effective data strategy and governance. The estimated salary range for this role is $180,000 - $220,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
