About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sponsor Monitoring Officer to join our team at the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs. As a Sponsor Monitoring Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the visa program and preventing potential migration fraud and foreign worker exploitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct investigations and perform other visa compliance activities, applying and interpreting legislation, policy, and procedures relating to sponsor obligations and visa pre-decision verification.
  • Undertake site visits, educate business sponsors regarding their obligations, and conduct investigative interviews relating to sponsor monitoring and visa pre-decision verification checks.
  • Manage a compliance monitoring caseload with a high degree of independence, assessing evidentiary material, and preparing routine and complex documentation, including recommendation reports and decision records for approval by the Inspector.
  • Issue Notices of Intent to Take Action (NOITTA), Infringement Notices, and recommend administrative penalties, such as barring or cancelling a work sponsor or the issuance of an Infringement Notice, where breaches of obligations are found.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including other law enforcement agencies, to disclose/request information appropriately, progress, and de-conflict caseloads.
Requirements
  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Meet Border Force Officer qualifications, including relevant medical and fitness testing within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Be uniformed.
  • Preferably hold a valid driver's licence.

The Department of Home Affairs offers an attractive remuneration package, including salary, superannuation benefits, and flexible working conditions appropriate to the level of the position. The Department may provide relocation assistance to eligible APS employees required to relocate.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position, you must be an Australian Citizen. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
