The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Team Leader to lead the Criminal Records team.
As a key member of the Business Services branch, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of National Police Checks and ensuring the highest level of service to clients.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing a high-performing team to deliver services to clients
- Providing expert guidance and development of all team members
- Overseeing the annual assessment and delivery of over 800,000 National Police Checks
- Working within multiple layers of legislation
- Driving business process improvements for the reduction of red tape

Business Area Overview
The Criminal Records team sits within the Business Services branch, which provides corporate and shared services to the AFP. Our objectives are to support our frontline by delivering high-quality services, manage and implement business and system improvements, provide training and help desk facilities, and offer flexible work options.
Role Responsibilities
As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading and managing a high-performing team to deliver services to clients. This includes:
- Providing expert guidance and development of all team members
- Overseeing the annual assessment and delivery of over 800,000 National Police Checks
- Working within multiple layers of legislation
- Driving business process improvements for the reduction of red tape
You will also contribute to the development of governance and policy across teams, support the well-being and welfare of team members, and actively contribute to the leadership team within Criminal Records and Business Services.
Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must:
- Be an Australian Citizen
- Hold a Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or be able to obtain one
- Have demonstrated ability to lead a team
- Have a demonstrated ability to understand all relevant legislation
- Have an understanding of relevant information systems or be able to gain some
Desirable Requirements
Contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role would be highly regarded. We encourage applicants with skills and/or experience in areas such as contemporary policing practices, leadership and management, and information technology.
