The Aboriginal Population Health Trainee role is a unique opportunity for an individual to gain valuable experience and skills in public health.

Key responsibilities of the role include embedded training in various rotations, addressing child and youth health service delivery and evaluation, Aboriginal community engagement, vaccine promotion and outbreak investigations, and working on appropriate messaging for climate change.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Sound knowledge of social, cultural, political and health issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of the health of Aboriginal Health and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
  • Successful completion of a recognised undergraduate degree or ability to meet the admission requirements for the post graduate degree of Master of Public Health at a university in NSW.
Benefits

The holder of this position will complete a three-year traineeship as part of the NSW Aboriginal Population Health Training Initiative. This will involve an exciting series of work-based placements within the health service and part-time study towards a Master of Public Health degree at a NSW-based university.

Additional Information

This is a NSW Health Category A position which requires immunisation and screening for certain diseases. The full list of requirements are outlined in the NSW Health policy.

National registration with the relevant profession is required.
