This role offers an opportunity to join a workshop team as a senior technical officer. As a key member, you will oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and innovative delivery of bespoke manufacturing solutions.
About the RoleYou will work closely with researchers, academics, students, and industry partners to enable high-precision fabrication, rapid prototyping, and custom solutions. This dynamic role requires strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as technical expertise in CNC machining, laser cutting, and 3D metal printing.
- Schedule and coordinate workshop operations, inductions, and equipment training.
- Liaise with researchers and industry partners to scope and prioritise jobs.
- Operate and programme CNC and multi-axis lathes, as well as manual equipment.
- Review and produce CAD technical drawings to support prototyping and research.
- Ensure compliance with WHS standards, SOPs, and safe workshop practices.
- Lead and mentor technical staff, building collaborative relationships across the university and beyond.
This role involves:
- Managing a team of technical staff to deliver high-quality design and manufacturing services.
- Coordinating workshop operations, including scheduling and training.
- Developing and implementing strategies to improve efficiency and innovation.
- Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
We seek a motivated and adaptable leader who thrives in a busy workshop environment and can balance multiple stakeholder priorities. You will have a degree or trade qualification with at least four years subsequent relevant experience in engineering, or extensive experience and management expertise in technical fields.
