About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead our Corporate Accounting & Treasury team at The University of Newcastle. As a key member of our Financial Services unit, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of our institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the Annual Financial Reporting process, external audit, tax compliance, banking functions, accounts receivable and fixed asset accounting.
  • Provide insightful analysis and presentation of financial statements and information.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, promoting a culture of collaboration and a commitment to provide great support to University stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance financial operations.
  • Build relationships with key internal stakeholders and external service providers.
About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A degree in accounting, business, or equivalent, along with postgraduate qualifications and professional membership (CPA, ACCA, or CAANZ).
  • Extensive management experience in financial accounting, taxation, compliance, and internal controls within a large and complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to deliver accurate financial reports under tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing and motivating teams.
  • Demonstrated capability as a trusted business advisor.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel) and proficiency in Office tools like Outlook, Power Point, and Share Point.
  • A commitment to promoting a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace culture.
