Positive Behaviour Support Specialist Role

This challenging role is part of a welfare team, reporting to a manager within an Immigration Detention Facility. The successful candidate will provide positive behaviour support services to detainees with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, and other complex diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional information and advice to detainees with complex needs, staff, and other relevant stakeholders regarding evidence-based approaches to reducing the impact and frequency of challenging behaviours.
  • Contribute to the overall success of welfare services available to detainees, conducting comprehensive assessments and Functional Behaviour Analysis to assist in the development and implementation of the Detainee Behaviour Support Plan.
  • Support complex case and critical incident reviews and provide support to site-based personnel to identify and support detainees identified as at risk.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A degree in psychology, counselling, social science or other related fields.
  • Ability to conduct functional behaviour assessment and design function-based behaviour support plans.
  • Experience using evidence-based interventions/strategies and person-centred approach in managing challenging behaviours.
  • Minimum of 3 years (full time equivalent) experience working as a Positive Behaviour Support Specialist and providing positive behaviour support.
