**Conservation Specialist Role Overview**

As a Conservation Specialist, you will collaborate with our team of experienced professionals to conduct research and monitoring of threatened aquatic fauna. Your excellent ecological field and analytical skills are essential in determining how to best manage threats and facilitate recovery of aquatic threatened species.

You will be a key contributor to the team, working with staff from across the unit and engaging with stakeholders including program managers, park/land managers, government agencies, research institutions, volunteers, Traditional Owners, natural resource management groups, non-government organisations, and species experts.

Key responsibilities for this position include leading and undertaking experimental research, designing and undertaking experiments, conducting appropriate analyses, and communicating results to relevant stakeholders.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Experience in undertaking research and monitoring projects related to threatened aquatic species.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
  • A solution-focused approach to challenges and ability to work autonomously.
  • Confidence in both written and spoken communication skills, with an ability to articulate purpose and engage with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and projects, identifying research needs, developing approaches, communicating effectively, and building collaborations.
