Overview

Senior Conservation Officer - Flexible – Queensland Government

The Pest Services team sits within the Technical Services branch of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships (QPWS&P) and provides strategic services and advice regarding the agency's internal and external legislative and custodial responsibilities as they relate to the management of invasive species. The team ensures governance, contemporary science guidance, staff training, and data collection, management and reporting. This position will assist in coordinating programs and systems and managing data and resources contributing to the management of invasive species on Queensland's protected areas and forests to protect natural and cultural values.

Responsibilities
  • Support and guide operational programs to deliver invasive species management, and provide input to associated policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist with design of monitoring programs, identify issues and develop systems, procedures and standards to support delivery of invasive species management activities on protected areas.
  • Contribute to the preparation of correspondence, reports, submissions and briefing papers to inform adaptive management.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and consultative processes with internal and external stakeholders including community members, First Nations peoples, other government agencies (local, State and Commonwealth), industries and special interest groups to ensure effective invasive species management on the protected area estate.
  • Represent the pest services team in internal and external meetings and groups.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations peoples of Australia.
