Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Queensland Government Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Do you want to drive meaningful conservation outcomes for Queensland's threatened species? Threatened Species Operations (QPWS&P) is recruiting a Senior Conservation Officer to join our Terrestrial Research & Monitoring team. This science-focused role designs and delivers rigorous research and monitoring that directly informs on-ground decisions and measurable conservation outcomes. You'll lead, and contribute to, collaborative, solution-focused projects on abundance and distribution, threats and interactions, and intervention effectiveness, working with species such as the northern hairy-nosed wombat, Proserpine rock-wallaby and greater glider, as well as scaling multispecies approaches using a range of innovative sampling and analytical approaches. If you can break down complex problems and develop robust science-based solutions, join us.

As a Senior Conservation Officer, you will work within a diverse team of experienced professionals responsible for undertaking research and monitoring to develop and communicate evidence to assist the recovery of threatened species. You will contribute scientific leadership that links rigorous inquiry with management-ready advice.

We are seeking an ecological researcher who can design statistically robust research and monitoring programs across species and landscapes. You will be developing strategic investigations to solve complex conservation challenges, reviewing current solutions to problems, and evaluating the effectiveness of conservation efforts.

You will lead end-to-end project delivery: identify key questions, obtain approvals and permits, plan and implement field programs (including remote operations and animal handling as required), manage QA/QC, analyse and review data, and report findings to inform management decisions.

Success in this role depends on strong relationships. You are self-motivated, able to work autonomously, and comfortable operating within multidisciplinary teams to deliver strategic components of large, complex programs. You will build knowledge and share ideas across the unit, broader QPWS regions, as well as other departments, research institutes, Traditional Owner groups, and other agencies. You will co-design projects and communicate results to collaborators, stakeholders and management.

You will also assist in the design and implementation of digital data processes and analytical methods for single and multi-species investigations using a range of methods and associated data types, such as camera traps, GPS/radio collars, passive acoustic recorders and drones. Skills and experience with reproducible quantitative analyses in R or Python for solving ecological questions will be advantageous. You will apply strong project management, uphold WHS, animal ethics and permit requirements, mentor colleagues, and actively contribute to a safe,

inclusive and culturally informed workplace.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
