About the Role

At Chubb Insurance Australia Limited, we are seeking an experienced Claims Examiner to join our Property Claims Team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of property claims, analysing first reports, and determining the nature of loss, coverage provided, and scope of damage. You will also be required to communicate with customers and brokers, assess claims, and make payments in accordance with Chubb's service level and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of property claims, analysing first reports to determine the nature of loss, coverage provided, and scope of damage.
  • Assess claims in accordance with Chubb's service level and quality requirements, determining coverage, reserving within timeframes, making payments, responding to customer queries, and providing updates.
  • Communicate with customers and brokers via telephone and written correspondence.
  • Promptly and properly document all developments on claim workstation files.
  • Participate in Claim Department and companywide training as required.
  • Seek technical assistance in handling claims exceeding delegated authority.
  • Respond to enquiries and escalations of matters from underwriters, brokers, and customers, and work with underwriters, the Compliance Department, and other departments as needed.
  • Proactively apply claims policies and procedures, including those related to fraud, salvage, cost containment, and complaints.
  • Exercise good judgement in reaching final disposition of claims, evaluating the nature of loss, liability, damage, coverage provided, and applicable limits.
  • Negotiate compromise settlements where appropriate.
  • Participate in claims meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Effectively control the use, work product, and expense of outside vendors.
  • Monitor performance and processes of service providers, making recommendations and escalating breaches to Claims Management as needed.
  • Assist in daily payment, audit, and other administrative tasks as required.
  • General assistance within the Claims Department and adoption of other duties in response to altered business needs and staff changes.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualified.
  • Investigation techniques.
  • Written and verbal communication skills related to claims handling.
  • Insurance contracts knowledge.
  • Legal requirements and regulations awareness.
  • Damage and/or loss evaluation skills.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Litigation procedures understanding.
  • Reserving skills.
  • Familiarity with Chubb's claim philosophy.
  • Capable of participating in audits.
