Advanced Optical Systems Specialist

We are seeking an experienced specialist to lead the development of cutting-edge optical systems. The ideal candidate will contribute directly to Australia's Defence capability, driving innovation and advancing electro-optical technologies.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead design studies and architecture definition.
    • Evaluate technologies across optics, sensors, electronics, and mechanical subsystems.
    • Assess system performance and define high-level system requirements.

The successful applicant will be responsible for defining comprehensive subsystem specifications, participating in risk analysis, cost estimation, and strategic planning for system production and deployment. Strong collaboration skills are essential for working with international experts and suppliers to ensure robust and innovative system designs.

Requirements:

  • Advanced Degree: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Technical Expertise: Minimum 5 years' experience in optronic or electro-optical systems.
  • Optical System Design: Strong understanding of optical system principles, focal plane arrays, sensor electronics, image processing, and real-time systems.
  • Modelling Tools: Familiarity with relevant modelling and simulation tools.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Australian Citizenship: Essential due to Defence security requirements.
  • Security Clearance: BASELINE clearance essential, NV1 eligibility required.
