Optical Systems Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Optical Systems Specialist to lead and shape the design and development of cutting-edge electro-optical systems. This exciting opportunity contributes directly to Australia's Defence capability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Electro-Optical Leadership: Lead electro-optical design studies, architecture definition, technology evaluations, and system performance assessments.
  • System Requirements: Define high-level system requirements and develop comprehensive subsystem specifications.
  • Modelling & Simulation: Develop models and simulations to validate system performance under real-world conditions.
  • Technology Integration: Assess technologies across optics, sensors, electronics, and mechanical subsystems, integrating them effectively.
  • Technical Collaboration: Work closely with international experts and suppliers, ensuring robust and innovative system designs.
  • Design & Compliance: Lead design reviews, manage technical documentation, and oversee compliance assessments.
  • Risk Management: Participate in risk analysis, cost estimation, and strategic planning for system production and deployment.
Skills & Experience Required:
  • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Technical Expertise: Minimum 5 years' experience in optronic or electro-optical systems, including imaging payloads, stabilised gimbals, tracking systems, or optical sensors.
  • Optical System Design: Strong understanding of optical system principles, focal plane arrays (MWIR, SWIR, LWIR), sensor electronics, image processing, and real-time systems.
  • Modelling Tools: Familiarity with relevant modelling and simulation tools.
  • Cross-Functional Experience: Proven capability to lead technical integration activities and manage interdisciplinary challenges.
  • Security Clearance: Must hold BASELINE security clearance on commencement, with the ability to obtain NV1.
