Key Job Responsibilities

The role of Governance & Public Officer involves serving as a liaison between the local council and the public. This position requires exceptional diplomacy and leadership skills to manage governance and procurement systems effectively.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in governance and procurement, preferably within local government. A degree in a relevant field such as law or business management is highly desirable.

In this challenging and varied permanent role, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing governance frameworks that meet statutory legislation requirements;
  • Managing customer access to information through formal and informal GIPA applications;
  • Oversseeing the development of procurement policies and monitoring organisational practices;
  • Preparing and distributing council meeting agendas, business papers and minutes;
  • Providing support and guidance to elected officials on their statutory obligations;
  • Managing customer handling and tracking systems for complaints and enquiries;
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • 10+ years of experience in a similar role with broad managerial experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing governance frameworks, managing compliance, and overseeing meeting protocols;
  • Highly proficient in developing and implementing governance and procurement policies, systems, procedures, processes, and controls;
