Safety Compliance Advisor

Job Description

The Sydney Airport is seeking a highly motivated and capable Safety, Security, Environmental, and Quality (SSEQ) Compliance Officer to join the team in a key operational role. This frontline position provides second-line assurance across all maintenance and construction works at the airport.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced building site supervisor from within the Construction industry or related field. The successful candidate will work on-site to ensure compliance with SSEQ requirements while partnering with contractors and internal stakeholders to manage interface risks and maintain operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct assurance inspections and audits during both day and night shifts.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with Work Health and Safety, quality, environmental, and security obligations.
  • Provide advice and coaching on risk controls.
  • Participate in risk workshops, toolbox talks, and pre-start briefings.
  • Assess contractor Safe Work Method Statements, Safety and Quality Management Plans, and permits.
  • Support coordination between projects, maintenance, and operations.
  • Assist with return-to-service tasks after night shifts.
  • Help implement the airport's Critical Risk Program, including assurance processes.
  • Identify and support initiatives for ongoing improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to Australian Standards, National Construction Code/Building Code of Australia, and WHS legislation.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Tertiary qualifications in construction, engineering, Work Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Experience in construction supervision or compliance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation, QA systems, and risk management.
  • Skilled in incident response, inspections, and contractor engagement.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and permits.
  • Familiar with Australian construction standards (e.g. BCA, NCC).
  • Understanding of contractor management, construction safety, and high-risk work frameworks.
  • Work Health and Safety or Lead Auditor certification preferred.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work rotating shifts and manage competing priorities.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to service delivery.
