Data Governance Specialist

This exciting opportunity has arisen within the People & Culture (P&C) Operations team at Transurban to shape the future of data governance. As the Data and Governance Consultant, you will work closely with the P&C Data and Governance Lead to drive data management strategies that align with our core obligations and evolving data landscape.
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing the full data lifecycle, ensuring data security, and embedding a robust data governance framework across the P&C function. By partnering with teams across cyber, risk, compliance, and privacy, as well as the broader Transurban Data Management team, you will play a critical role in mitigating data risks, enhancing operational data capabilities, and supporting key business objectives.
Your expertise in data governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance will guide day-to-day activities, ensuring that Transurban's data is both secure and strategically leveraged. This is an exciting chance to make a lasting impact by shaping data governance policies that support the company's vision.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and manage data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Support the delivery of data quality and remediation initiatives, including the management of the information asset register.
- Collaborate with internal teams and consultants to build the data catalogue.
- Support the creation of the data model, data glossaries, and data definitions to ensure information is easily accessible and trusted.
- Contribute to capability uplift in relation to data, privacy, risk, and cyber security.
- Analyze key data governance metrics to measure effectiveness and communicate with stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders to enable them to develop and manage data.
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience in data management, data governance, and/or vendor management.
- A degree in Information Management, Business Analytics, Information Science, Data Management, or related disciplines is preferred.
- Well-established knowledge of data governance concepts, data obligations, data quality, and compliance regulations (including data privacy).
- Familiarity with data management frameworks and proficiency in data analysis tools.
- Critical thinking, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to overlay business acumen to develop insights and recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work cross-functionally and collaborate with various people and teams.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to consult and influence as needed with employees and stakeholders.
