Role Summary

An opportunity exists for an experienced Principal Engineer to lead multidisciplinary teams in designing and delivering integrated solutions for electrical high voltage substations.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Australian utility standards and related substation projects, including Extra High Voltage Substations – Primary Systems (up to 500kV) design, layouts, equipment specification, short circuit force calculation, earth grid and shielding.

  • Leading a team of designers to support multi-disciplinary design and project management teams.
  • Taking ownership of preparing and delivering full scope of work for EHV substations, new builds as well as extensions of existing substations, synchronous condensers, and battery installations in accordance with local technical standards and guidelines.
  • Maintaining client relationships to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborating closely with clients, internal, and external stakeholders to define project goals, interfaces, establish budgets, and develop project schedules.
  • Participate actively in design reviews, risk assessments, and quality control processes to guarantee design excellence.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in high voltage substations to recommend innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities Include

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Power Engineering is required along with CPEng and/or RPEQ certification, extensive experience in HV and EHV substation design, excellent interpersonal and technical skills, ability to lead and develop design teams, and understanding of commercial needs.

Desirable skills include experience working in digital engineering environments, commercially minded individuals who can understand business needs, and ability to develop strong client relationships.
