Job Description

The primary responsibility of this role is to design high-voltage substations and networks. This involves creating detailed designs in accordance with industry standards such as IEC 62271 and AS 60076. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and conducting professional engineering works, including developing single line diagrams and protection diagrams.

In this capacity, the engineer will also be required to understand high-voltage protection systems, develop technical specifications for switchgear, transformers, and other equipment, and design indoor substation layouts that meet Australian safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices, as well as experience working with HV cable sizing and modeling software. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Requirements
  • University degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience in HV substation and HV distribution networks
  • Knowledge of HV distribution design standards, both Australian and international
  • Fundamental understanding of HV primary design
  • Understanding of civil/structural interface requirements for HV substations
  • Site experience in construction and commissioning projects
  • Ability to learn software packages like CYMCAP and DIg SILENT Power Factory independently; experience is an advantage
