Electrical Engineer for Underground Coal Mining Project

Join a dynamic team as a Longwall Electrician and be part of something big - a rare chance to help launch a longwall from the ground up.

We are currently recruiting experienced Longwall Electricians to join our foundation longwall crews. These permanent roles will commence in November 2025, providing time for onboarding and preparation before the longwall starts up in 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment including brand new purpose-built CAT/HBT Longwall System, advanced Shearer technology, Remote Operating Cabin, New Monorail and Hydraulics Systems.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems on longwall equipment including shearers, AFCs, BSLs, hydraulic roof supports and power distribution units.
  • Identify and rectify electrical faults using diagnostic tools and technical knowledge.
  • Install and commission electrical infrastructure during longwall moves or new panel setups.
  • Assist with electrical breakdowns to ensure downtime is minimised.
  • Perform insulation resistance testing, earth fault loop testing, and high-voltage testing.
  • Monitor the performance of electrical equipment and identify potential failures before they occur.
  • Work closely with the wider team, which includes mechanical fitters, engineers, and control room operators, to ensure seamless performance.
  • Ensure electrical compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements and all site policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Australian recognised Electrical trade – Certificate III in Electrotechnology.
  • Current QLD Electrical licence.
  • Proven experience in underground coal mining, particularly with longwall systems.
  • Sound understanding of longwall mining systems and automation.

The position is offered on a 7/7 day-night roster and can allow for a residential (Moranbah), DIDO (Drive-In, Drive-Out) or FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) lifestyle. You will stay in camp accommodation with all the necessary facilities.
