As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist the Project Manager, Engineering Manager, and/or Lead Mechanical Engineer with defining and delivering project requirements related to scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Prepare engineering calculations for bulk materials handling systems, hydraulic and conveying systems, dewatering systems, static equipment such as tanks, pressure vessels, bins, and chutes.
  • Have experience in Shaft, Winder, Backfill, and Batching Plants.
  • Prepare specifications and designs for underground mining infrastructure, e.g., underground workshops, tyre bays, and other fixed facilities.
  • Develop project standard specifications and design criteria.
  • Create scopes of work, technical specifications, and data sheets for electrical equipment (mobile and static) with input from other disciplines.
  • Manage packages throughout their lifecycle, including specifying requirements, technical bid evaluations, expediting, and reviewing vendor data.
  • Collaborate with designers on engineering input for 3D models and drawings.
  • Respond to technical queries during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Participate in preparing discipline design, studies, calculations, and documentation to support feasibility studies.
  • Carry out detailed engineering for supply and construction.
  • Contribute to capital estimates and project schedules.
  • Provide key discipline input to multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Participate in formal engineering review processes.
  • Provide on-site technical support during construction and commissioning.

You will bring to the role:

  • A degree in electrical engineering.
  • 7–12 years of post-graduate experience as an electrical engineer.
  • An excellent attitude towards safety and the ability to comply with safety requirements.
  • Experience in underground mining and/or shaft hoisting, and in sectors like mining, metals, energy, or infrastructure (or similar heavy industries).
  • Experience in preparing project specifications, design reports, and technical documentation.
  • Experience in investigation, planning, and supervision of construction or maintenance activities in operational facilities.
  • Experience performing electrical studies (load flow, arc fault, protection grading) using power system modeling packages (e.g., SKM PTW, ETAP, PowerCAD); familiarity with field instrumentation and industrial control systems is advantageous.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external clients on technical and interpersonal levels.
