Opportunity Overview

We are seeking an Animal Welfare Specialist Leader to join our team at Monash University. As a key member of our Animal Research Platform, you will play a critical role in supporting the Faculty's research base and providing management and care services for animals of various species.

About the Role

The Animal Welfare Specialist Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated unit, promoting animal welfare with respect to animal production, care, and experimentation. You will provide a professional and efficient service to researchers by supplying quality animals, actively participating in and supporting research projects, and regularly liaising with researchers to ensure their specific needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee the management and care of animals in a designated unit, ensuring their welfare is maintained at all times.
  2. Develop and maintain strong relationships with researchers, providing high-quality animals and support for their research projects.
  3. Collaborate with the research team to identify and implement best practices for animal care and welfare.
  4. Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to animal care and welfare.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have a Diploma of Applied Science (Animal Technology) or progression towards the completion of a Diploma in Animal Technology with relevant work experience in a laboratory animal facility environment or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training, or experience in an animal facility environment. You will also possess a passion for working with animals and a collegial, collaborative, and engaging work ethic.

Estimated Salary

$90,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
