Steel Fabrication Specialist

About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled Steel Fabrication Specialist to join our team.
The successful candidate will have experience in boiler making and welding, with a strong understanding of workshop drawings and the ability to read, interpret and fabricate from them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret workshop drawings to determine product or job instructions and specifications.
- Competently and safely operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal using gas shielded metal arc to the required specifications and Australian Standard.
- Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the fabrication trade such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment, grinders and carbon rod gauging.
- Label and sort manufactured plate material into product groups.
- Mark-out, cut/drill/punch holes as required for plate material in accordance with fabrication drawings.
- Layout, position, align and assemble components together in accordance with fabrication drawings and tolerances.
- Mechanical cutting of steel and compiling of cutting lists from fabrication drawings.
- Measure and cut raw materials with straightedges and high accuracy.
- Move steel in workshop with overhead crane and forklift (where licensed and authorised).
- Transfer fabricated components between production departments in accordance with production schedules.
- Perform general housekeeping and maintenance of work areas, equipment, tools and facilities.
Requirements:
- Trade qualification in boiler making/welding.
- Previous experience in structural steel fabrication.
- Ability to read, interpret and fabricate from workshop drawings.
- Qualification in the mig weld process and ability to perform various types of weld procedures.
- Adherence to OH&S practices.
- Organised, efficient and productive work habits.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
