Child Safety Specialist
This role is a critical component of our district's efforts to provide a safe and supportive environment for children and families. As a Child Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating an integrated response to children under the age of criminal responsibility who are exhibiting problematic or harmful sexual behaviours.
The Safe Wayz Program adopts a strength-based, family-focused and culturally centered trauma-informed approach to working with children and families. This role will require you to collaborate with agency partners, provide consultation and training, and advocate for system and practice changes that promote child safety and well-being.
As part of this team, you will work closely with other specialists to identify and understand the complex needs of children and families. You will also coordinate pathways into specialist counselling services for those who need them and manage a small clinical case load.
We seek to create a culturally safe environment for people from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families and communities. This role will contribute to the success of our local Safe Wayz Program team, which is integrated into the Districts Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Service.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate an integrated response to children under the age of criminal responsibility who are exhibiting problematic or harmful sexual behaviours.
- Collaborate with agency partners to provide consultation and training on child safety and well-being.
- Advocate for system and practice changes that promote child safety and well-being.
- Coordinate pathways into specialist counselling services for children and families who need them.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Relevant qualifications and experience in child protection, psychology, social work or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with children, families, and agency partners.
- A deep understanding of child development, trauma and resilience, as well as cultural safety principles.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for children and families.
