Overview

Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety has permanent Child Safety Officer (CSO) roles available in Toowoomba to protect and welfare of children and youth. Graduates and career changers with experience or interest in social work, youth work, counselling, or similar – this role is for you

Location and team

Based in the Toowoomba Child Safety Service Centre (CSSC), you will work with CSOs, Senior Team Leader, CSSOs and Cultural Practice Advisors (CPAs) to ensure children\'s safety across the region.

What you'll do (Responsibilities)
  • Manage complex casework with support from peers and leaders
  • Conduct risk assessments and create case plans
  • Collaborate with families, care givers, other departments, community organisations, healthcare services, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations
  • Provide culturally respectful and appropriate support to families from diverse backgrounds
  • Work across intake, investigation and assessment, ongoing intervention, and placement services as part of a frontline team

What you need to be a CSO (Qualifications and Requirements)
  • An Australian Driver\'s License and right to work in Australia
  • A Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field (plus further study or work experience)
  • Understanding of statutory role, including knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999, and ability to write case notes while maintaining privacy
