Key Role Information

This position is open for a Graduate Environmental Health Officer. The successful applicant will contribute to the monitoring and regulation of food and health premises across the City to support the safety, health and wellbeing of our community.

The role offers hands-on experience across various environmental health matters and is ideal for a recent graduate looking to launch their career in local government.

Main Responsibilities
  • Inspect food premises, skin penetration businesses, public pools, cooling towers and boarding houses to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Assist in investigations of environmental issues and major pollution incidents.
  • Support the implementation of educational programs on public and environmental health.
  • Contribute to the assessment of Development Applications involving contaminated land or environmental concerns.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence and represent the Council in formal meetings when required.
  • Liaise with external agencies and community stakeholders on public health matters.
Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or Public Health within the past few years.
  • A sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Food Act, and Public Health Act.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional approach to regulatory duties.
  • Excellent problem-solving and investigative skills.
  • A current Class C Driver's Licence.
  • Prior experience in public or environmental health (paid or unpaid) is highly desirable.
