**Job Title:** Staff Specialist

About the Role

The Public Health Unit is seeking an accredited Public Health Physician to fill the role of Staff Specialist. The position provides evidence-based clinical, public health and program advice to support health protection activities in environmental health, immunisation, communicable disease control, and emergency preparedness.

The Staff Specialist will take a lead role in implementing these activities including identifying, monitoring, and investigating matters of significant risk to public health and coordinating appropriate responses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide public health medicine expertise, clinical advice and support to the Public Health Unit.
  • Implement health protection activities in environmental health, immunisation, communicable disease control, and emergency preparedness.
  • Identify, monitor, and investigate matters of significant risk to public health and coordinate appropriate responses.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A current medical practitioner registered with the Medical Board of Australia, and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) or other relevant specialist recognition.
  • Demonstrated current understanding of the principles and practice of public health medicine.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  • Experience in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners in a multidisciplinary health care team.
