Job Role Overview

This role focuses on supporting people with vision impairment to enhance their independence in daily living activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • We seek an experienced professional to provide Orientation & Mobility (O&M) services, responding to requests for information and support from enquiring individuals.
  • The ideal candidate will establish effective communication and professional relationships with clients, families, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • A comprehensive O&M assessment will be conducted, with results communicated to clients, families, and case teams.
  • The selected individual will develop and deliver instructional, client-centred Orientation and Mobility programs.
  • Ongoing training will be provided in orientation and mobility techniques across various environments.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the client's O&M skills will ensure client safety, promoting independence and problem-solving in different travel situations.
Essential Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in Orientation & Mobility is essential.
  • The ability to travel regularly by car and domestic flight for overnight stays is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, along with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with clients and others.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • An attention to detail and skills in analysis, planning, and problem-solving are essential.
  • A current unrestricted driver's licence and good driving record are also necessary.
  • Additionally, a Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker check may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Orientation & Mobility would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and policies related to disability would be beneficial.
