
Vision Loss Support Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Orientation & Mobility professional to join our team on a permanent full-time or part-time basis. The successful candidate will provide O&M services to support individuals with vision impairment to develop, enhance and maintain independence in their desired activities of daily living.
Education Pathway OpportunityThe Graduate Diploma in Orientation and Mobility prepares graduates for enriching careers in the provision of Orientation & Mobility (O&M) services. We offer a scholarship opportunity for students who are interested in becoming a qualified O&M specialist via the UNSW Grad Diploma in O&M pathway.
What's on Offer?
- Supervised work integrated learning O&M placement with up to 20 weeks duration.
- Financial assistance towards Graduate Diploma of O&M course (up to $9,000).
- Relocation support for the right candidate.
- A guaranteed Graduate O&M position within the Albury/Dubbo team upon completion.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing information and support to people enquiring about services, maintaining effective communication and professional relationships with clients, families, colleagues and supervisors, and planning and conducting individualised O&M assessments and communicating results with clients.
They will also develop and implement client-centred Orientation and Mobility programs, train clients in orientation and mobility techniques across various environments, monitor and evaluate client O&M skills to ensure safety, facilitate client independence and problem solving in travel situations, and work with clients who have additional disabilities.
Essential Requirements- Tertiary qualification in Orientation & Mobility and current COMS certification.
- Ability to travel regularly by car and domestic flight for overnight stays.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and skills in analysis, planning and problem solving.
- Sound computer application and technology skills.
- A current unrestricted drivers' licence and good driving record.
- Will to obtain a Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Check.
