About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished professional to lead our X-ray Facility as Director. As a key member of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre team, you will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the facility and ensuring its continued success in supporting researchers and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of research scientists, technical and professional staff to deliver operational excellence and innovation in X-ray science
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, MWAC to align X-ray science strategies with UNSW's research goals
  • Manage the X-ray facility's operations, including planning for new capabilities, overseeing publications and reports, and expanding commercial services
  • Develop and implement a research program, conducting collaborative experiments, and networking with external agencies
  • Supervise student projects, lead publications and grant writing, and contribute to MWAC's leadership

Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field, with a strong research track record in X-ray techniques
  • Leadership experience in collaborative research with impactful outcomes
  • Ability to manage commercial services and knowledge of research ethics and compliance
  • Experience in teaching and supervising in a multiuser research environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead a team and manage resources
