About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Senior Research Leader to join our team at UNSW Australia as the Director of our X-ray Facility. This is a unique opportunity to lead a world-class research facility and contribute to the future development of X-ray science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of research scientists, technical and professional staff to deliver operational excellence and innovation in X-ray research
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, MWAC to align X-ray science strategies with UNSW's research goals
  • Engage in independent and collaborative research on X-ray methods and techniques
  • Manage the X-ray facility's operations to support stakeholders, including researchers, students, and commercial clients
  • Develop and implement strategies for new X-ray capability and instrumentation
  • Oversee publications and reports, and expand commercial services in partnership with the Chemical Consulting Laboratory
  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field, such as Material/Chemical/Physical Sciences
  • Recognised authority in X-ray techniques and research
  • Leadership experience in collaborative research with impactful outcomes
  • History of securing external funding and knowledge of research ethics and compliance
  • Commercial X-ray applications experience and ability to manage commercial services
  • Experience in teaching and supervising in a multiuser research environment
  • Ability to manage resources and research infrastructure
