About the Role

The Australian Research Council (ARC) is seeking a visionary leader to drive the next stage of its development as Chief Executive Officer. Reporting to the Minister for Education, the CEO will play a critical role in shaping Australian research to deliver economic, social, environmental, and cultural benefits.

As a high-profile national appointment, the CEO will work closely with the ARC Board to drive transformation, champion the impact of Australian publicly funded research, and advocate for the ARC's role in the research ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive research excellence and impact
  • Lead the ARC's transformation in response to government policies and sector expectations
  • Champion the ARC's role in the research ecosystem and advocate for its interests
  • Build collaborative partnerships with stakeholders, including government, academia, and industry
  • Drive a culture of high performance and achievement within the team
Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong business acumen, able to harness diverse interests and drive outcomes at scale. They will have broad senior executive leadership experience in a knowledge-intensive setting, with a proven track record of building collaborative partnerships and navigating the nuances of government, academia, and industry.

Essential to the role is significant experience and professional credibility in undertaking or managing research, which will provide a foundation for effective engagement with all levels of government, universities, industry, and international partners.

Outstanding communication and presentation skills are essential, including the ability to fulfill media and advocacy responsibilities.
