As an Environmental Research Scientist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Designing, implementing, monitoring, analysing and writing up field trials to enhance environmental performance, including defining key performance metrics for rehabilitation, understanding complex ecological interactions, and quantifying mining related impacts on vegetation.
  2. Engaging with scientific networks, sharing findings with internal and external stakeholders and collaborating closely with research partners to drive evidence-based environmental outcomes.
  3. Working closely with rehabilitation teams to assist in handback and botanical monitoring programs.
  4. Contributing to broader research initiatives, such as rehabilitation implementation, native plant production, fauna interactions with forest and rehabilitation areas, and studies related to soil and water dynamics.

To excel in this role, you will need to possess:

  • A PhD or Masters by Research in Ecology or Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Flora research experience with a strong knowledge of Western Australian flora.
  • Experience in designing, installing and monitoring large-scale field trials and vegetation surveys with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to translate research findings into practical improvements.
  • Background in mining rehabilitation with a knowledge of GIS would be highly beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills including delivering presentations, and publishing reports and papers.
  • The ability to analyse complex datasets using appropriate statistical methods.
  • A WA Drivers Licence to travel across various sites.
