Environmental Governance Specialist

About the Role:

The Environmental Governance Specialist plays a pivotal role in overseeing environmental management outcomes and ensuring effective risk management practices. This involves providing technical expertise to grow environmental capability, coaching operational leaders on key responsibilities, and collaborating with other teams through in-field engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Help line leaders understand their environmental risks and implement controls to manage these risks.
  • Collaborate with other teams through in-field engagement and verify the effectiveness of Environmental management controls.
  • Participate and coach as an Environmental subject matter expert in risk register reviews, risk assessments, and Environment event investigations.
  • Collect and report environmental monitoring and performance data.
  • Utilise work management to administrate environmental approval obligations and meet reporting timeframes for event and compliance reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline approvals to enable operations, and facilitate the Management of Change (MoC) process for new/amended approvals.
  • Supervise contractors involved in the safe and productive execution of Environment monitoring programs managed work.
  • Support the development and delivery of improvement initiatives and regulatory approvals.
Requirements:
  • Environmental management experience in mining or similar industry with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills, with a history of achieving results through influence, coaching and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection Act Part IV and V frameworks and approval pathways is advantageous.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Environmental Science or a related field.
